Arc Day 6: A 200 mile day!

Our first full 24 hours of “proper sailing,” and we’re doing well, catching up with the boats that motored more aggressively than we did out of the gate.

We’ve had steady winds over the past 24 hours, ranging from 16 to 20 knots. With the full mainsail and gennaker flying, we are sailing at 145 degrees off the wind. The seas remain calm, at less than 2 meters—excellent conditions. We covered 200 miles in this 24-hour period (8 a.m. to 8 a.m.). If we can maintain this pace, we should make landfall in St. Lucia on the 10th of December.

Of course, there’s still plenty that can change between now and then, so we’re taking it one day at a time. Winds are expected to pick up in the next day or two, so we’re prepared to reef if necessary.

Song of the day: The proclaimers I'm Going to be (500 Miles)

Everybody, sing along;:

"I could Sail 200 miles.

and I could sail 200 more,

just to be the boat that sails 2300 miles

to land on St Lucia's shore.

Da da da (da da da)

Da da da (da da da)

Da-da-da dun-diddle un-diddle un-diddle uh da-da

Before their music career took off, Charlie and Craig Reid were avid supporters of Hibernian F.C., a football club in Scotland. During one of the matches, the twins came up with the idea for their first big hit, “Letter from America,” while sitting in the stands. The song reflects their deep connection to Scottish culture and history, and its success helped catapult them into the international spotlight. If you search Youtube, you will find a great video of the Hibs fans singing 500 Miles after a Scottish Cup Victory (I think it was that)
