14th May 2025 Please note I am having issues with Predict Wind Tracking and cannot get it to update position. See image at the bottom of this post for current position.

We are enjoying a very easy start for our first day with light winds and flat seas. We had a nice 10 -12 knot wind during the day, but this dropped to less than 8 knots, so regrettably we had to start the engine. With this we were only anle to knock off 140 nautical miles on our first 24 hours.

In the morning we were able to sail for a short time before the wind again dropped. This is all consistent with the forecast and we expect to see more wind any time now! We had Chery's Thai Curry for dinner last night, bulked up with lots of rice. There were no left overs! For desert we had Cheryl's banana bread with ice cream. Big thanks again to Cheryl from all of the crew. So we have are having a completely level ride, ice cream for desert and toasty hot showers (engine heats the water). This is not exactly the conditions that the "Clipper" crew are used to. I did offer to throw a bucket of cold salt water on them, for that more authentic experience, but there were no takers.

I've been putting out the fishing line but no bites yet. There has been a lot of sargassum seaweed in the water. We caught one big lump that took out all the line. Felt like a fish, but after 20 minutes of hard grind on the reel, it was just a big lump of weeds. We have seen no other traffic out here in the first 24 hours. It is a big ocean! Weather is good but noticably cooler as we are on the east side of a high that is drawing cool air onto us from Nova Scotia. We hope to get around the top of that soon and head east.

Update at 16:17 GMT - We are sailing (slowly)
