We has a good day completing 158 nautical miles in the last 24 hours. The winds remained light overnight (10 - 12 knots) and the seas were calm. In the morning the wind picked up a little (14 - 16 knots) and there was a bit of chop. We were sailing on a beam reach with Main and Code Zero. Around 8.00am Seamus calls out from the helm; "The foresail is gone", I look out the window from the salon and still see it. But when I looked further up I saw the big rip along the line of the repair. This was disapointing as the good folks at Ocean Sails in Bermuda were very responsive and pulled out all the stops to get it done. When we put it up it looked and performed as good as new and it was exactly what we needed for the light air conditions that were forecast.. Really do not understand why it failed as conditions could not have been kinder. We were all saying it was like sailing on a lake. I sent the pictures to Steve at Ocean sails and he came back quickly and offered to refund. That is great service.

The good news is we were able to furl it, keep it out of the water and get the halyard down. The bad news is this would have been our goto sail for the forecasts winds.

But this is sailing:

So true!
So true!

So we unfurled the jib and continued, our speed dropped from 8.5 - 9 knots to 6.5 - 7 knots. Over a long passage that knot and a half makes a big difference. We should get some down wind sailing at some point so we can haul out the Gennaker and hopefuly recover some miles.

Yesterday Diorbhail did some baking; scones for afternoon tea and bread for breakfast. Very nice. Dinner was a tuna pasta (sorry canned tuna, still too many weeds out there to fish) courtesy of Gill.

As of 6.20pm (21.20 GMT):

Sea state continues to be incredibly flat. I'm not sure how long this will last, but we will enjoy it while we can.
