Stephen took off early to explore the island using the regular bus service. Like other parts of Spain, the bus service here is excellent—good buses, regular schedules, and low prices. It’s €1.40 for a ticket within the city, and €6.00 to travel to the other end of the island.

Cheryl and I set out for a walk across the peninsula. After winding through charming streets, we reached a beach promenade that, though a bit worn, led us to a park with a rugged, almost moonscape feel. The paths were impressive—well-maintained slate tiles, wooden boardwalks, and gravel.
The surf was strong, and surfers were out in full force. We paused to watch several of them expertly ride the waves.
As we neared the end of the trail, the rain started to fall, so we turned back, but still managed to get about 12 km in. On the way back, we stopped at a café and enjoyed a classic: a ham, cheese, and tomato baguette.
